Am very passionate about my profession and I hope I would teach you everything what I learnt, I never taught any of my student to mugging up their books. Apart from this am an UPSC aspirant . As a teacher, I don’t think it is proper for me to like or dislike students. Some students are quick learners; others are slow. Some students are very personable; others lack elementary social skills. But they are my students, not my friends.Outstanding example: I had a student come to ask for a letter of recommendation. I didn’t know him very well, so I asked him to write out a page of self-description, including not only his favorite accomplishments but also his hobbies. I like my letters to include a personal touch. He objected. I assumed he was worried that I was asking him to write his own letter; I wasn’t. I told him that I just wanted it for background. But his objection was not that. He said he objected because writing a page like that would take a lot of work.I was surprised and bemused. “Don’t you think it takes a lot of work for me to write a good letter of recommendation?” I asked. He replied, “Yes, but that is your job.”If I were ever going to dislike a student, he would be the one! But I don’t think I did. I considered him to be socially handicapped. He doesn’t know how to interact with other people in a way that could benefit him.I think other professors would have kicked him out of their office. I didn’t. I realized that this was a student who would have a difficult time getting any letter of recommendation from anyone. I finally said, “Those are my terms. Write the page, or I won’t write a letter.” He never did, and I never wrote a letter of recommendation.I think it is essential for teachers to stand apart from likes and dislikes. That is part of my job. I am a teacher and that means also someone who guides students through difficult times.
